Looking for housing? Start with Coordinated Entry.

Every Rescue in Motion placement comes from Houston's Coordinated Entry system, run by The Way Home. We don't provide emergency rental assistance, shelter, or intake by phone, email, or in person. To get started, go to The Way Home's Get Help page or a Coordinated Entry access point.

Housing first, because nothing else works without it

Rescue in Motion places chronically homeless individuals with disabilities into permanent apartments in the community — not shelters, not transitional beds. Rent is subsidized, the lease is in the tenant’s name, and support follows the person.

Once someone is housed, everything else becomes possible: a primary care doctor, a benefits application, a recovery plan, a job.

For landlords and partner agencies only. Current residents: please contact your case manager directly.

How it works

01

Start with Coordinated Entry

Every placement in RIM comes through The Way Home, Houston's Coordinated Entry system. Connect at a Coordinated Entry access point, through an outreach worker, or via thewayhomehouston.org.

02

Assessment and prioritization

Coordinated Entry assesses your situation and places you on the community housing priority list based on need, vulnerability, and eligibility — not on who called first.

03

Matched to Rescue in Motion

When a RIM unit opens and you are the community's match, Coordinated Entry sends the match to us. Our Adult Services team then verifies chronic homelessness and disability documentation and helps you gather what HUD requires.

04

Move in — with support that does not expire

The lease is in your name, rent is subsidized, and your case manager stays: benefits, primary care, mental health, recovery, employment. There is no exit clock on this program.
