Fathers First
Nine weeks with other fathers, honest facilitators, and no lectures — for fathers, father figures, and community fathers 18 and older.
When fathers are supported, families are strengthened
Fathers First is a fatherhood promotion program serving fathers, father figures, and community fathers ages 18 and older across Harris County. Over a structured nine-week experience, participants build the knowledge, skills, and support to be actively engaged parents and positive contributors at home and in the community.
The curriculum covers responsible fatherhood, healthy relationship development, co-parenting, and economic stability — taught through education and guided discussion, so fathers learn as much from each other as from the facilitators. Participants are also connected to workforce training, employment services, and other supports that fit their own goals.
Cohorts start throughout the year — ask when the next one opens.
Fathers First
The nine weeks
01
Responsible fatherhood
What engaged fathering looks like week to week — presence, discipline, child development, and the difference between providing and parenting.
02
Healthy relationship development
Communication, conflict, boundaries, and the patterns fathers often inherited and would rather not pass on.
03
Co-parenting skills
Working with the other parent — including when the relationship is over or strained — so the child is never the message carrier.
04
Economic stability, then connection
Budgeting, employment, and child support navigation, plus warm referrals to workforce training and any other supports you need.
